This is a joint role providing professional leadership to both the Respiratory Physiology services and the Sleep Centre at RPH. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Joint Respiratory Physiology Services, Divisional Operational Management Team and RSSC Clinical Lead to develop and deliver a long-term strategic plan and annual business plan for both clinical and research work for the departments. This will include responsibility for innovation and service development in the context of developing staff roles and introducing new technologies underpinned by research, validation and audit. The post holder will lead service delivery and development whilst maintaining day-to-day participation in the clinical and research work of the department. The post holder will work with the administrative and clinical teams to ensure that the national waiting times for diagnostics are met.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role will include:
Oversight and line management of the Sleep Lab/Respiratory Physiology team, which includes bands 5 to 7 respiratory and sleep scientists, bands 3 to 4 healthcare and admin staff. The successful applicant will have a hands-on role, leading the team to deliver, improve and grow the complex sleep investigation and respiratory physiology clinical services, while facilitating research initiatives.
This includes meeting current clinical demand while working with operations to develop and implement a strategy to increase capacity to meet growing demand and resolve backlogs.
They will promote the departments to raise their national and international profiles through engaging in collaborative teaching and research projects.

- Experience of performing and interpreting simple to complex tests of respiratory and sleep physiology, including polysomnography.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of all respiratory and sleep physiological assessments from simple to complex
- Knowledge of conducting research through devising research projects, collecting data and analysing results
- Proficient in Microsoft products, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
