An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent full-time Band 6 Junior Sister on Cheddar Ward

Cheddar Ward is a 26 bed ward that is a dual speciality, catering for patients who have gastroenterology and acute medical needs.

Patients are admitted from the emergency department, assessment units and endoscopy post procedures and require monitoring.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate can expect to have the opportunity for career development. They will be given support and training to develop leadership and management skills and will be responsible for looking after a small group of staff. There are opportunities to develop your assessment skills as the Trust supports a wide range of training opportunities.

The successful candidate will be proactive in improving patient safety and driving standards of care forward. Have excellent nursing skills and be proactive in the care and management they provide to their patients.

Your main role as a Band 6 is to co-ordinate the workforce and patient admissions and discharges on a shift ward whilst maintaining the safety of patients throughout this process. This is a challenging but rewarding role and the applicant must have excellent communication and problem solving skills. Have the ability to adapt to changing situations when under pressure.

The successful candidate will be flexible, a good team worker, bring with them a passion to excel and ensure high standards are adhered to and exceeded and be innovative within a team environment.

As a Band 6 nurse, you will be expected to manage Datix incidents, appraisals, absences and audits alongside the Ward Manager, as part of the Senior Nursing Team on Cheddar.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • NMC registered adult nurse
  • RGN 1st Level


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Medical and or Gastroenterology Nursing
  • Knowledge of current issues in the NHS


Desirable

  • Experience of Audit and Change initiatives
  • Experience in the area applied for
  • Competent at advanced nursing practice appropriate to area
  • Leadership Experience
