This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, high calibre NHS Biomedical Scientist looking for your next career step in leadership and operational management.
The Pathology departments at South Tees Hospital (STH) and North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) are working collaboratively developing a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology with services being delivered on all four hospital sites. Whilst your employment contract will be with STH the post will require cross site working across all trusts within the group. We are looking for an enthusiastic healthcare professional who can understand the changing services of pathology and represent the new service going forward. You must have the appropriate experience, knowledge and skills to join our Cellular Sciences team, working within the Microbiology team (alongside the Lead Biomedical Scientists in Bacteriology and Virology/Molecular) ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and helping maintain the operationally the provision of a safe, effective and efficient service.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate with a flexible approach to work. The post holder will provide operational management to the microbiology team and be responsible for ensuring the operational safety and best practice of the department - for the benefit of the clinical care of patients within the hospital and community. The successful candidate will have proven operational management skills. Although a background in Microbiology is not essential you must have extensive technical and theoretical knowledge of clinical laboratories, as described in the person specification, and a working knowledge of Microbiology would be advantageous.
All departments have full UKAS accreditation and are approved IBMS training laboratories. Microbiology is a dynamic and forward thinking department providing an expert 24/7 service across all our hospital sites. You will hold an FIBMS and/or MSc and/or HSD (or equivalent experience) and a recognised management qualification (or equivalent experience). Where equivalence is being used to meet these essential criteria, please provide details in your supporting statement. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to CPD, have excellent interpersonal and time-management skills. Relocation expenses may be considered.
