Band 7 Rotational Cancer and Aseptic Services Pharmacist

By working together, we can achieve national cancer objectives, such as early diagnosis and personalised care for our patients. Our cancer patients will benefit from your expertise in the specialist clinical haematology and oncology field, thereby supporting the development of a resilient and suitable cancer and aseptics service locally.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to provide patient-focused pharmacy services to both outpatients and inpatients. You will also work as part of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit supporting the aseptic preparation and release of high risk injectable or infusional products, as well as maintaining a high quality, safe and efficient level of service delivery through the management of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) and efficiency savings.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To be competent to clinically screen all prescriptions for parenteral and oral products against approved chemotherapy regimens, including checking and interpreting blood results. This may include non-cancer indications such as rheumatology.
To be competent to screen, dispense and issue intrathecal injections according to Trust and National Guidance.
To liaise with the Oncology and Haematology teams regarding chemotherapy treatments, and provide advice and clinical support as required.
Work with the Accountable pharmacist to ensure, maintain and develop facilities, equipment and work practices to achieve the highest technical standards.
Act as an Authorised Pharmacist and supervise day-to-day preparation of products and release for use in accordance with local, regional and national guidelines.
To work closely with the Aspetic technical team and Cancer Pharmacy Team to co-ordinate treatment provision to the Day Therapy Unit, haematology inpatient unit and other medical wards requiring high risk injectable medicines.
To ensure Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit is operating in accordance with current legislation and guidance including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services, RPSGB Code of Ethics, Health and Safety, Medicines Act, COSHH and Departmental Procedures.
To be able to perform final release of products purchased as unlicensed ready to administer doses from Specials Manufacturers, and maintain competence in this area.
To be fully aware of the processes used to accurately and consistently prepare, dispense and release a wide range of aseptic products including cytotoxics, epidurals, intrathecals, antibiotics, parenteralnutrition, high risk injectables and novel agents.
