We have an exciting opportunity for an Optometrist to join the Ophthalmology Uveitis team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 6 months to cover maternity leave. The post-holder is required to provide optometric support to the clinic which runs in conjunction with other departments within the hospital.
This is a one day post (Friday) Band 6/7 depending on experience.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Optometrist with hospital experience who is able to carry out a wide range of complex optometric and ophthalmological procedures.
The successful candidate must have experience of working with children, have a caring, sensitive approach and enjoy working within a team

Main duties of the job
- To carry out the administration required to maintain the service as well as other administrative tasks as delegated by the line manager
- Working both individually and as a member of the Ophthalmic team to provide advanced Optometric and Ophthalmological support within the Uveitis clinic.
- To undertake a wide range of complex clinical services as an extended role paediatric optometrist
- Discussing and informing patients and parents of highly complex and sensitive issues relating to their eye condition and treatment thereof.
- To provide some teaching and training at post-graduate level to a multi-discipline team
- Possible research into relevant Optometric and Ophthalmological areas both individually and as part of the team
- To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team
- Liaising with external professionals and services involved with the child
- Providing both verbal and written support to parents
- Maintaining accurate records
