An exciting opportunity exists for the Macmillan Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist role. We are seeking a motivated, dynamic, proactive nurse who will work collaboratively with the Macmillan Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team and the wider Multidisciplinary Team to provide a robust pathway for patients diagnosed with Gynaecological Cancers.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously as well as alongside the Macmillan Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader and as part of the larger team. Experience of nursing gynaecology patients, oncology patients or patients receiving anti-cancer treatment is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in the Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team providing specialist advice and support to both patients and their families during the gynaecology diagnostic and treatment pathway. As an integral part of the wider Multidisciplinary team, the postholder will work across gynaecology cancer services including screening, symptomatic, surgery and oncology services.

The post holder will promote clinical excellence and provide specialised advice and support to patients with gynaecological cancers, and their carers, throughout the treatment pathway. This must be in line with national trends and strategies ensuring practice is patient centred and evidence based.

The post holder will report to the Macmillan Gynaecology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader and the Deputy Lead and Lead Cancer Nurse.

  • Demonstrates exemplary nursing practice and the implementation of evidence-based care, the provision of a high standard of individualised patient care and experience, upholding the Trust Nursing Strategy which includes the 6Cs.
  • Participate in and potentially lead meetings and committees both inside and outside of the Trust produce timely, accurate and concise reports and papers.
  • To assist in the local, regional and national development of the area of speciality, expressing and suggesting views as an innovator and expert practitioner
  • Working autonomously taking responsibility for a defined caseload of patients, with a gynaecologicalcancer.
  • Assesses potentially highly complex patients, planning, implementing and reviewing care within the hospital environment, both in-patient and out-patient, community or other settings

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 registered with NMC
  • Oncology, Gynaecology or Palliative Care Qualifications
  • Teaching & Assessing qualification or equivalent experience.


Desirable

  • Advanced Communication skills
  • Psychology Level 2 training


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Transferable Gynaecology or Oncology experience at Band 5 or 6
  • Evidence of involvement in Clinical Governance
  • Understanding and experience of Clinical Audit


Desirable

  • Risk Management & incident Investigation
  • Evidence of involvement in service users' advocacy and complaints resolution
