The post holder will be required to deliver and lead the Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS) providing highly specialist assessment and treatment for adults with stroke across Cornwall.

The Team Lead will ensure all patients with stroke with rehabilitation needs have access to specialist assessment and associated care. Additionally, they will support the Consultant Practitioner for Stroke and the ICSS Manager. They will operationally manage the Locality Team and act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.

The Team Lead will provide leadership for the specialist stroke team through supervision, training and appraisal alongside professional clinical supervision. They will also lead on clinical governance and service development alongside the Consultant Practitioner in Stroke and in partnership with other clinical leads.

Main duties of the job

Support the Consultant Practitioner for Stroke and the ICSS Manager. They will operationally manage the Locality Team and act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.

Use expert and advanced clinical reasoning to formulate and deliver an individual Occupational Therapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice involving the patient, carer and/or appropriate staff.

Use problem-solving approaches to develop original, effective & efficient recommendations that demonstrate evidence of positive risk taking, for improving the quality of professional practice in unpredictable & normally specialised contexts

Demonstrate technical mastery of complex skills within unpredictable contexts and modify a technique in-action

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications


  • Professional registration HCPC
  • Professional Qualifications - Degree in OT or equivalent
  • Evidence of appropriate postgraduate courses and/ CPD to support practice when working with adults with stroke
  • Management / Leadership training
  • Experience acting as an autonomous practitioner formulating specialist assessment and treatment plans relevant to adults with stroke
  • Experience in leadership and supervision of staff


  • Membership of Professional & clinical interest groups
  • Experience of working in strategic planning and development

Knowledge and skills


  • Highly skilled in triage of referrals to the team, in line with service priorities.
  • High levels of time management skills, working flexibly both autonomously and as part of a team with the ability to engage and network professionally
  • An awareness of national agendas influencing clinical practice e.g. NICE
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge of the theories and principles of therapists and their application in this role
  • Able to identify, plan and lead audits relating to service provision
