We have an opportunity for, enthusiastic nurses to join the Health Advising team providing a sexual health/prevention service to sexual health patients living in Birmingham and Solihull. We are looking for a motivated conscientious individual who can communicate effectively with patients and staff members. The overarching aim of the Health Advising service is to reduce any harm associated with sex, and to empower service users to make positive lifestyle choices.
You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and work within the Umbrella sites throughout Birmingham & Solihull. The applicant should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in sexual health experience is desired although not essential as training will be provided.
Umbrella is a uniquely comprehensive partnership of local service providers, including community pharmacists, general practitioners, third sector and other partners, NHS Trusts and Birmingham City Council Services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide advice and discuss issues relating to sexually transmitted infections, including results of laboratory tests, with patients both face to face and over the telephone.
*Provide advice, support and treatment to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infection(s)
*Use Partner Notification skills to facilitate the attendance of sexual contacts of patients with sexually transmitted infections
*Carry out safeguarding risk assessments and respond to safeguarding concerns

Qualifications
Essential
- *Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.
- *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
- *Has a genuine interest in sexual health and the post of sexual health adviser and can demonstrate this both at time of application and at interview.
Desirable
- *Post registration training / qualification in sexual health GUM / SSHA or equivalent.
- *Recognised STIF qualification or willing to undertake training.
Experience
Essential
- *Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months).
- *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
- *Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others.
- *Willingness to become a Mentor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship.
Desirable
- *Knowledge of current issues regarding sexual health, GUM and contraception.
- *Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post.
- *Experience of working in a sexual health service.
