NHS West Sussex talking Therapies, for anxiety and depression in long-term health conditions provides talking therapies to people with mild to moderate mental health problems associated with their long term physical health conditions and achieve excellent recovery outcomes for our patients. We're now looking for an experienced CBT therapist, mental health nurse, social worker or other healthcare professional who is skilled in identifying and managing patient risk to join our friendly team.

Our Mental Health Duty Worker would be employed as a Risk and Referrals Manager to lead the development of our Duty management system, reviewing daily referrals while advising and supporting the team around risk and safeguarding, keeping patients and staff safe. You'll be in daily contact with patients and various healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

For this interesting role you'll need to be competent around risk management which you'll have gained through your experience of working with secondary mental health care. You'll have a can-do attitude with excellent communication skills even when working under pressure in a busy service. No two days are the same which means you'll need a flexible approach while adhering to protocols and procedures. If you're a professional team player then Psychological Therapies experience isn't necessary as our comprehensive induction programme will ensure you're given all the support you need. We can consider job sharing for the right people.

The role includes substantial client contact by telephone, often talking with people who may be distressed, to help screen client suitability for the service and make referrals where appropriate into secondary mental health services. You will manage the interface between NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies and secondary mental health care services.

Based in either Horsham or Worthing office you'll ideally be able to travel between sites on a regular basis, with potential to work from a location in Chichester when needed.Looking after the team's wellbeing is a priority for us and you'll receive regular supervision and continued professional development with leadership opportunities.

Job responsibilities

This is a great opportunity to join our team as the service delivers on the commitments of the NHS Long Term Plan (2019).

You will be working within a multidisciplinary team that consists of CBT Therapists, Counsellors, PWPs, Administrators, Managers and Employment Advisors, and regularly engage with external stakeholders. We are commissioned to provide services from 8am to 8pm and all staff are required to contribute 7.5 hours of cover over this daily time frame.

We have adapted our service to enable the continued provision of psychological therapies via video platforms and telephone working, and staff have been equipped with laptops and mobile phones to help them work from home. We work with a blended approach involving home working and working on site.

The post holder will still need to be willing and able to travel throughout West Sussex as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or professional registration

Essential

  • RMN or Allied Health Professional with current registration and accreditation e.g. CBT Therapist/Counselling Psychologist.
  • Core Profession (e.g. MH Nursing, Accredited Counsellor, Occupational Therapy, Health Visitor etc.).
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in health or social care and/or psychological therapies.


Desirable

  • Qualified and accredited CBT Therapist/Counselling Psychologist
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of IAPT and psychological therapies
  • Experience of working with secondary care mental health services.
  • Experience of working with primary care services
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and significant experience of working with people with complex mental health problems
  • Experience of conducting clinical assessments and risk assessing patients.
  • Experience of partnership working within teams and across various statutory and non- statutory teams and agencies including safeguarding.


Desirable

  • Experience of delivering training and specialist training to a range of staff.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision.


Essential skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of a number of psychological therapies (CBT, Counselling, step 2 therapies, psychotherapies etc.).
  • Specialist knowledge and skills in working with people with a range of common mental health conditions
  • Knowledge of wider contributory factors to maintain good mental health, wellbeing and resilience e.g. medication compliance, drug and/alcohol user
  • Ability to work at pace and effectively under pressure, with patients who are highly distressed and/or at risk of self-harm or suicide.
  • Ability to form good working relationships with staff in a MDT and with external partners and agencies.
  • Effective communication skills in order to work with external partners and agencies.
  • Specialist knowledge of mental health to enable critical decision-making in relation to patient care and risk.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information from a range of sources (i.e. patients, ATS, health professionals, clinical assessments etc.) to decide on plans of care for patients.
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively.
  • IT literacy and able to use a variety of digital platforms and willingness to take on new technology.

  • NHS West Sussex talking Therapies, operational hours are Monday to Friday 8am -8pm - able to work in service hours and outside of operational hours as needed to meet demands of service.
