Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in collaboration with Surrey and Borders NHS Foundation Trust are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, innovative and experienced practitioner psychologist to develop psychology provision to the paediatric diabetes team in East Surrey Hospital. This is a 0.8wte permanent position, you will be employed by SABP and seconded to Surrey and Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. This role will lead the development of a psychology service for children with diabetes, working with a well-established multi-professional team. You will ensure that the team is supported in understanding the psychosocial needs of young people with diabetes and have access to expert consultation. You will have the opportunity to work with CYP aged between 2- 19 years, assessing the psychological needs of newly diagnosed patients, offering evidence based psychological interventions for individuals, groups and families, and building effective transition pathways into adult services. You will offer supervision, teaching and consultation to peer and junior professionals, including 8a Clinical Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists. There will be fantastic opportunities for CPD and the option to attend the quarterly regional Diabetes Psychology and Diabetes professional network meetings. There will also be the possibility to showcase exemplar work at national conferences like the BSPED.

Main duties of the job

  • To plan and deliver a highly specialist psychology service for children with diabetes and oversee its clinical governance.
  • To develop pathways to ensure children with diabetes have their mental health needs and emotional wellbeing screened and when needed have access to evidence-based psychological interventions for individuals, groups and families.
  • To ensure children and families who use the service are involved in development of the service.
  • To be responsible for the clinical supervision of psychology staff working in the service.
  • To work alongside the relevant management and clinical teams to do the above.
  • To deliver highly specialist psychology assessments, interventions and consultation to children with diabetes and their families.
  • To contribute to service-related activity including research, service evaluation and audit.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent
  • Completion of an appropriate clinical supervision course to enable supervision of trainees


Desirable

  • Additional academic clinical qualification in psychological therapy
  • Additional leadership/management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post qualification clinical experience in child mental health
  • Experience of leading in clinical practice, service development or project work
  • Experience of supervising trainees, assistant psychologists, qualified clinical/counselling psychologists and others providing psychological therapies
  • Experience of implementing change following audit and service evaluation
  • Demonstrable experience of developing complex formulations drawing on multiple psychological models
  • Experience of advising other professionals on complex psychological issues and risk


Desirable

  • Extensive post qualification experience in a health setting
