We are delighted to be recruiting for a Consultant Midwife at Wye Valley NHS Trust. The Consultant Midwife role is pivotal to our services, and the post holder will be integral to the maternity senior team, working to improve the safety and quality of the maternity service.

Based in the heart of Hereford, County Hospital hosts our single site Maternity Unit where we deliver over 1,600 babies a year. We are currently offering a traditional model of midwifery care, with a view to move to a Continuity of Carer model in the future. Whilst we are based in the city, Herefordshire is known for its rolling countryside and we serve communities across a wide rural area, supporting women from a wide range of social and ethnic backgrounds.

Our maternity senior team has grown significantly over the last 3 years and are proud to demonstrate our commitment to improvement through the establishment of many specialist roles. The Associate Director of Midwifery joined the Trust earlier in 2022, and as a senior team, we are working on setting clear structures, objectives and boundaries, and to include a wider consultation and engagement plan to ensure our workforce can contribute to shaping the services of the future. We are looking forward to welcoming a Consultant Midwife to be part of this work.

Please contact Amie Symes, Associate Director of Midwifery for an informal discussion. We are happy to welcome prospective applicants to look around the unit and meet the team.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a skilled individual with demonstrable and relevant experience in midwifery. As the national landscape of maternity services evolves, we require the post holder to have experience of keeping abreast of national strategy and drivers, and delivering proven results and successful change.

We are looking for a candidate who can evidence MDT working and with experience of workforce engagement. As post-holder, you would need to be a visible leader and a good team player who would be self-motivated and able to motivate others, inspired to work with our fantastic team.
