We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative and highly organised researcher, with experience in research project management and conducting high quality, health services or applied health qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will lead studies in the Decluttering (safely) for Safety theme as part of the NIHR funded, prestigious Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration (YHPSRC). This theme is led by Professors Rebecca Lawton, David Alldred and Robbie Foy. The YHPSRC is a 5-year collaboration between the University of Leeds and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and one of six NIHR-funded centres for patient safety research across the country. The aim of the Yorkshire and Humber PSRC is to deliver research that makes care safer.
Main duties of the job
You will take a leading role in the delivery of a portfolio of projects within De-cluttering (safely) for safety PSRC theme, along with collaborating across themes and with patients, members of the public, NHS staff and other stakeholders, including NIHR research organisations and industry partners. Critical to the role will be engaging with patients, clinicians and other stakeholders to optimise study design, data collection, and the impact of your findings. There is a cross-theme focus on inequalities in safety and all Senior Research Fellows will support this research agenda. All researchers are expected to actively engage with PSRC operations, and our vibrant research culture and will benefit from the opportunity for career development as part of our research capacity development programme. Post-holders will also be eligible to become NIHR Academy members and have access to additional training and development opportunities.
Within your role you will have the opportunity to collaborate with and be a part of a large, multi-disciplinary team. Other responsibilities will include public engagement activities, data management and analysis, and providing regular progress reports.
The successful candidate will have a post-graduate degree or equivalent experience/qualification in a health or health/social care research related subject, experience in project management, and considerable experience in undertaking health services research.

- Line managing and mentoring of junior research staff
- Leading research design and conduct of qualitative and/or quantitative research, including data analysis.
- Overseeing good governance in research, including ethics, and information / data management.
- Managing applications for NHS research ethics committee approval.
- Contributing to, or leading on applications for research funding.
- Co-ordinating and/or leading theme meetings, including responsibility for documentation and liaising with external collaborators and stakeholders.
- Leading on annual reporting to NIHR for your research theme.
- Reporting to the theme lead and PSRC programme manager on project progress and outcomes to enable monitoring for and reporting to the NIHR.
- Engaging effectively with patients, the public and healthcare staff to ensure our research meets the needs of these groups.
- Leading and contributing to the writing and publication of academic papers and conference presentations.
- Enhancing the impact of our work through engagement with a variety of academic and non-academic audiences (blogs, social media etc).
- Recruiting participants.
- Collaborating with other PRSC themes, the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber ARC, and researchers in other research centres nationally and internationally.
- Engaging with colleagues within the YQSR group and offer advice and guidance as required.

- At least 2 years' postdoctoral or equivalent level experience of organising and conducting applied health services research.
- Experience of obtaining NHS ethical and research approvals.
- Project /programme management experience: planning research activity, keeping to timelines, managing risks, reporting.
- Experience in designing and conducting qualitative or quantitative and/or mixed research methods.
- Experience of collaborative research working and stakeholder engagement in research.
- Lead authoring peer-reviewed publications and giving conference presentations.
