Applications are invited for a permanent, part time Band 6 Orthoptic position.

This post would be suitable for an experienced Orthoptist with a desire to undertake management responsibilities.

The post is predominantly a management position, being responsible for the safe and efficient running of the Orthoptic Led school screening service in the Rotherham Borough area. This will include line managing 2 members of community staff as well as managing and representing the service. There is an expectation that the post holder will undertake some clinical work in the paediatric and orthoptic adult and child clinics as required.

We are looking for a highly motivated Orthoptist to join our department of 6 Orthoptists, 6 Ophthalmologists and 2 clinical and admin support workers. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good range of organisational and communication skills, as well as a flexible approach to their work. The ability to travel within a geographical area is essential in order to meet the requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Orthoptics provides services at Rotherham Community Health Centre. In addition we provide Orthoptic services in local special schools. You will be required to work at these sites as part of your duties.

This post is suitable for an experienced orthoptist with little or no management experience as training will be given.

A conscientious and hard working nature is essential to this post as time management is predominantly self directed.An empathetic, caring and tactful manner is of importance in order to effectively manage the small group of community staff.

The post provides a large amount of flexibillity in regards to the working hours or days and there is an expectation that these hours will be worked during term time only.

We are an accredited clinical placement centre, committed to the teaching of undergraduate Orthoptic students, as well as medical students, pre-registration Optometrists and other healthcare professionals.

The department encourages regular involvement in CPD and take part in departmental clinical audit, as well as personal review / development processes.

  • Diploma or Degree in Orthoptics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Willingness to undertake line management training
  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
