An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and lead our Orthopaedic Elective Ward within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary . This is a designated elective admissions ward for predominantly Orthopaedic specialities, but will support other specialist pathways. The ward will provide day case and inpatient pre and post op care, including enhanced care for those stepping down from DCC / HDU care or on an enhanced recovery pathway.

The Surgical Division will be recruiting a highly motivated and innovative experienced senior surgical nurse with proven experience of leading / managing within an acute hospital environment.

The successful candidate will join the current senior team to progress development of the service, and recent experience of working within Orthopaedics in a senior role is desirable.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a flexible approach to improving patient outcomes.

A proven ability to work in collaboration with a range of clinicians / managers across differing Clinical Divisions is essential. This role will be involved in working alongside the enhanced recovery team for Arthroplasty services to achieve and ensure KPI compliance, and will require some QI involvement within this. We are looking for an inclusive leader who values development across the team and supporting health & well being.

Main duties of the job

Create an environment where the patient is central to all decision making and the delivery of high quality compassionate care is every body's prime objective.

Have continuous 24-hour responsibility for leading and co-ordinating the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the department.

Work across 5 days a week in a clinical and supervisory role.

Set & monitor professional standards and the delivery of all aspects of care ensuring trust policies & procedures are adhered to.

Creating a dynamic learning environment for all staff, overseeing the provision of education, research and practice development within the ward.

Be responsible for the management of the pay and non-pay budget for the ward, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources. Identify improvements and efficiencies.

Ensuring your own personal compliance and that of your teams to the Trust's visions, values, and strategic goals.

  • Experience of working within an acute hospital setting
  • Scope roles /competencies relevant to speciality
  • Demonstration of knowledge and skills in speciality
  • Able to understand all aspects of surgical specialities
  • Evidence of department management under supervision


Desirable

  • Evidence of previous Band 7 experience
  • Orthopaedic Experience


Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current registration
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent qualification
  • Other advanced clinical skills i.e. venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, ECG
  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues
  • Demonstrate professional post-registration development
  • Degree in Nursing / Health Care or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate CPD and evidence


Desirable

  • Masters degree
  • None medical prescriber


Interpersonla skills

Essential

  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills with multi-disciplinary team/client/relatives.
  • Demonstrate a caring manner with an understanding disposition.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision.
  • Be interested and committed to caring for people from any type of cultural and environmental background or illness.

  • Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working as required and good attendance.
