We have an exciting opportunity to recruit Band 5 nurses to work as a float nurse working any hours across all our Paediatric Areas at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.

As we are passionate about the care we deliver to children and young people and their families, we are seeking enthusiastic, dynamic, committed and highly motivated individuals dedicated to making a difference to join our well-established Paediatric Team.

You will be expected to work cross all our paediatric areas, depending where the need is greatest at the time. You will be expected to provide high quality, safe and competent care to children and young people and be able to adapt well to required responsibilities, changes and roles.

This post is a perfect opportunity for nurses who are interested in having more flexibility with their hours and shift times. Essentially, you will have the opportunity to decide what your working hours will be per day and week.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating nursing care with opportunities to increase your skills, knowledge and experience. You must possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. We aim for our new team members to develop and take an active role in helping to make improvements on the unit and most importantly, to the care given to our patients.

Supported by the Practice Development team, you will receive a thorough induction and a tailored orientation programme, as well as a period of supernumerary practice. All newly qualified nurses will be offered our accredited preceptorship programme. Continuing professional development and post-registration education is actively encouraged through the provision of in-house study days and courses at the local universities to help build your nursing career.

    To work as a multi-skilled member of the nursing team within the Children and Young People Services maintaining high standards of practice and promoting the philosophy of child and family centered care. This job description covers all areas within Children and Young People.

    To assist senior nursing staff in the clinical management of the department, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of child and family centred care.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications and Training


    • RSCN or RN Child
    • Current NMC registration
    • Significant general paediatrics experience
    • BLS within last year
    • Functioning at minimum diploma level.


    • PILS provider



    • Good written & verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to document legibly and Precisely


    • Previous experience of working with children and family.
    • Competent in IV drug administration
