If you are a qualified Pharmacy Technician looking for a new rewarding and challenging role, comeand join our CQC rated 'Outstanding' Trust. We currently have an opportunity for a PharmacyTechnician to join our team. You will deliver a high quality, safe and effective pharmacy service toour community health and mental health services across our sites in Berkshire both from thedispensary and on our in-patient wards.

We are a small friendly team, based at Prospect Park Hospital in Reading where our dispensary islocated. You will have the opportunity to work at our community hospitals across Berkshireincluding Slough, Newbury, Wokingham, Maidenhead and Reading, as well as on the mentalhealth wards at Prospect Park hospital.

Our working hours are currently 09.00 - 17.00 Monday to Friday with you also working a late shiftin the dispensary on a rota basis, which means no nights or weekends. We offer free parking onsite.

Main duties of the job

This is a joint role, with time spent both in the dispensary and our wards:
  • Delivering a fast and effective pharmacy services to the wards and departments
  • Completing accuracy checking session(s)
  • Providing an admission, supply and discharge service to nominated wards.
  • Checking Patients' Own Drugs (PODs).
  • Undertaking medicines reconciliation.
  • Discharge planning and supporting patients to ensure that they get the best possibleoutcomes from their medicines.
  • Providing a ward top-up service.
  • Working with the clozapine clinic team to ensure medicines are ready for the Trust wideclinics.
  • Developing skills and knowledge as part of a commitment to CPD and Clinical Supervision
  • Providing support to Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians and support workers while theyundertake their learning.

    Person Specification

    Education/Qualifications

    Essential

    • Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC
    • Nationally recognised ward-based qualification to include POD checking, Supply and Medicines Reconciliation, or commitment to work towards this.
    • Nationally recognised Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification or commitment to work towards this.


    Desirable

    • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians (Integrated Apprenticeship award with evidence of working in a ward-based environment and carrying out the final accuracy check of dispensed products.


    Continuous Professional Development

    Essential

    • Commitment to undertake appropriate pharmacy accreditations as part of career progression
    • Commitment to undertake in-house Pharmacy Training Programme


    Previous Experience

    Desirable

    • Experience of mental health pharmacy
    • Experience of hospital pharmacy
    • Current accuracy checking skills
    • Current ward-based pharmacy technician experience including POD checking, supply, and medicines reconciliation


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Essential

    • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Good IT skills including the use of standard office programmes, the internet, Trust software and all pharmacy computer systems


    Additional Requirements

    Essential

    • Ability and willingness to travel between Trust locations within Berkshire in a timely manner when public transport may not be available.
