We have an exciting opportunity as a Band 6 Community Respiratory Nurse, Band 6, within our Mid Notts Cardiorespiratory Service.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of �2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust and have not been an employee of the Trust in the previous 3 years. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Whilst this post is mainly based in the Newark & Sherwood area there will be a requirement to work across Mid-Notts area including Mansfield & Ashfield to meet the needs of the service in the Mid- Notts portfolio, therefore you must be a full UK drivers licence holder and have access to a car for work purposes.

The Mid-Notts Cardio Respiratory Service is a community based team, which provides holistic and multidisciplinary evidence based support for respiratory patients in the Mid-Notts area.This service includes Specialist Community Respiratory Nurses, the Home Oxygen Service and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Working in partnership with other community teams, primary care and close support from Respiratory Consultants in secondary care. We aim to improve quality of life and promote self-management for respiratory patients through comprehensive holistic interventions.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be an experience Nurse responsible for providing specialist respiratory nursing care and will work flexibly supporting the team to deliver high quality patient care. You will need to demonstrate excellent risk assessment communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be adaptable, reliable, resourceful and approachable. Producing succinct patient assessment reports is essential and ensuring a high level of documentation within the specialist and holistic assessment which enables patients to be cared for in their own homes and clinic settings. You will facilitate the prevention of unnecessary hospital admission/re-admission by reducing the effects of ill health and disability and maximising the individual's potential for independence. A robust induction and competency-based development package will be provided.

Essential requirement


  • Applicant holds a FUll Uk Driving Licence
  • Applicant has the use of car for work purposes
  • Has evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Evidence of undertaking risk assessments
  • Evidence of undertaking audit / service development
  • Has awareness of oxygen prescription and associated risk assessments


  • Has physiological knowledge of long term respiratory conditions
  • Has post registration respiratory relevant CPD
  • Community experience
  • Has relevant Capillary/ Arterial Blood Gas course attended
  • Evidence of MDT working
  • Evidence of primary and secondary care service navigation



  • Evidence of senior clinical role
  • Knowledge of Respiratory conditions


  • Acute respiratory experience



  • Previous experience within Respiratory


  • Able to show end of life experience

Clinical experience


  • Passion or providing excellent patient care to patients with respiratory conditions

  • Evidence of escalating serious patient / public concerns / MDT working

  • Able to evidence a good level of patient education re respiratory conditions


  • Able to justify difficult decision surrounding patient care
  • Can recognise health inequalities in terms of equality and diversity
  • Able to explore how to tackle health inequalities form a clinical perspective
  • Evidence of supervisory role
  • Clinical educator ( practice supervisor/ assessor)
  • Able to work independently in clinic or patients own home environment
