A Midwife is an autonomous practitioner. They must be able to give the necessary support, supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to the conduct deliveries on their own responsibility and to care for the new born and the infant in any care setting. This care includes preventative measures, the detection of abnormal conditions in mother and child, calling for medical assistance and undertaking emergency measures in the absence of medical help. They have an important task in health counselling and education. They also have a role as a mentor for Junior Midwives and other staff.

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Midwives to join our team at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Northern Services, in Barnstaple. You must be committed to delivering high, quality midwifery led care, along with achieving the highest possible patient experience.

We are a small Trust making a big difference to the people of Northern Devon where more than 1,400 babies are born each year, either at home or in our delivery suite. We have roles available to work in the Hospital and within our Community Teams working across our beautiful landscape of North Devon. Community Midwives are predominately based within community midwifery hubs working together to provide personalised care throughout the Antenatal and Postnatal period.

These are dynamic and exciting roles where no two days are the same and you will need to think on your feet and adapt quickly, using your expertise to deal with any situation that comes your way. We are active participants in the Devon Local Maternity and Neonatal System, being involved in key work streams that will drive changes forward to improve care for women. We also work in collaboration with the Maternity Voices Partnership and are keen to have their involvement in developing our Maternity service.

This is an exciting time to join RDUH Northern Services, with significant investments being made in our services to ensure we can provide modern and digitally connected care to our patients for the future. These include the redevelopment of North Devon District Hospital as part of the Governments New Hospital Programme and the electronic patient record system. We are working towards enhancing the excellent care provision encompassing homebirth and vulnerable service users.

Working Pattern: There are 3 full time (37.5 hours per week) and 1 part time (30 hours per week) positions available. Shifts include: Long shifts 07:00 - 19:30, 19:00 - 07:30, Short shifts 07:20 - 14:50, 14:00 - 21:50, 21:00 - 07:30. Community Shifts 9:00 - 17:00 plus weekends.
