An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health & Safety Advisor to join the Trust's Corporate Health and Safety Team.

You will provide expert advice to all levels of the organization, assist with the planning and implementation of health & safety training, conduct audits and incident investigations, and ensure compliance with current legislation and regulations. (Including local policies and procedures)

You will work as part of the Corporate Health and Safety Team and report directly to the Health and Safety Manager.

You will hold a minimum of a NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) and will be able to demonstrate experience within a similar role and setting.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert health and safety advice to all levels of the organisation
  • Conduct audits, visits, investigations and compliance monitoring
  • Act as a first point of contact for all health and safety matters.
  • Prepare high quality reports on health and safety issues following staff concerns, incidents, trend analysis reports and external regulatory body requirements.
  • Acts as project lead to progress and resolve health and safety issues and concerns.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification or significant experience of working at degree level
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Membership of professional health and safety organisation (i.e. IOSH)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Project Management Qualification e.g. PRINCE 2
  • UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.


Desirable

  • NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals or evidence of working towards it.
  • NHS Leadership Programme/Leadership Training
  • Qualified and competent Quantitative and Qualitative FFP3 Face Fit Tester
  • Risk Management Qualification
  • ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Internal Auditor Trained


Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in health and safety/risk management
  • Proven experience of working in a management/leadership role
  • Experience of facilitating change in practice to improve services
  • Project management/co-ordination
  • Budget responsibility
  • Extensive investigation experience.


Desirable

  • Previous NHS experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of health and safety law
  • Excellent understanding of risk assessment techniques
  • Good understanding of change management
  • Business planning /annual planning
  • Use of IT systems (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook) - standard keyboard skills
  • Understanding of the NHS agenda
  • Service improvements and project management
  • Risk Management and Governance
