The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard ensuring that all staff working in their area maintains similar standards.

The post holder will undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR, FASP and NICE.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in maintaining cross trust integration of the ultrasound scanning service, standardising protocols, appointment systems and waiting lists and rotation of Sonographers throughout all scanning areas.

The post holder will participate in the ultrasound working group, which monitors and modifies the ultrasound service across the trust, contributing to the development of the service on a cross Trust basis and participating in research and audit programmes.

  • Substantial experience in ultrasound imaging post qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of post graduate teaching


  • Undertaking appraisal practices
  • Training in vascular ultrasound
  • Attendance of a clinical supervisor course
  • Managing a budget
  • Writing business cases and policies
  • Demonstrable operational management experience in the health service

  • To hold a BSc Hons degree or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current and up to date state registration through HCPC
  • MSc in Medical Ultrasound
  • Managerial qualification



  • Sufficient ability to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations
  • A commitment to improving patient services through an ability to sustain a clear performance focus on achieving demanding goals
