We are looking for maternity cover, and while we welcome all applicants we are especially looking for someone who is EMDR or CBT trained.

The post holder would be required to carry out assessments for young people presenting with mental health difficulties in the community, as well as providing a range of interventions and treatments, within an agreed work plan.

The successful candidate will be part of a stimulating and supportive multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health team (CAMHS). working with children and adolescents and their families with complex mental health needs.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for those practitioners who have recently finished RTT or CAPS training, and we have an excellent record in supporting staff in transitioning staff from training into qualified posts these training posts.

If you have EMDR or CBT training you will have the chance to use your skills to deliver specialist interventions on the specialist pathway.

Supervision is highly valued and available to all staff. We offer flexible working patterns and have the benefit of working across 2 sites in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.

Main duties of the job

To work in community CAMHS as a mental health practitioner, as part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside a range of professionals, including consultant psychiatrist, family therapist psychologists, psychotherapist, nurse and allied health professionals

To coordinate care for a caseload of young people, and be responsible for delivering short-term evidence based interventions from assessment and treatment through to discharge.

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake comprehensive assessment and treatment to children and young people and their families under the age of 18.
  • To carry out face to face and remote assessments for young people presenting with mental health difficulties in the community.
  • To manage a caseload of identified young people, offering appointments in a timely way, and working towards discharge where appropriate
  • To provide comprehensive clinical risk assessment and management in relation to children and young people including those presenting with self-injurious behaviour.
  • To implement risk management and safety plans collaboratively.
  • To develop collaborative care plans with young people and their families, based on the assessment of needs.
  • To deliver evidence based interventions to children, young people and families according to NICE guidance and local pathways of care
  • To liaise with relevant agencies in the delivery of care for children young people and their families/ carers.
  • Using resources creatively to engage and motivate young people and families in their care.
  • To maintain care records, ensuring both paper and electronic records are kept up to date in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Participate in the running of therapeutic groups/workshops


Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • RMN qualification or other relevant qualification ie social work, psychology, psychotherapy or IAPT post grad Dip in CBT
  • Current professional registration with appropriate professional body


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working with young people with significant mental health difficulties
  • Experience of using assessment & treatment skills in determining the nature and severity of mental illness/health in children and young people
  • Experience of assessing risk and developing risk management strategies with young people
  • Highly developed verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with young people, families and carers
  • Specialist knowledge of the needs, treatment approaches and rights of children and young people with emotional and mental health needs, and their carers and family


Desirable

  • Working knowledge of how specialist child and adolescent mental health services are organised and operate
  • Experience of delivering group interventions to children and young people and their families


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed active listening skills, which allow for reframing and testing of understanding
  • Highly developed written communication skills, with experience of compiling and sorting notes and reports, establishing statistical data and analysing information
  • Substantially developed IT skills with an understanding of Microsoft Office, and demonstrate a willingness to embrace new technology and processes
  • Mobile with the facility to move quickly across a geographically dispersed area with limited access to public transport
