Main duties of the job

The post holder will share Bristol LDU corporate responsibility in relation to:

Financial duties

Obligations under Health & Safety and Fire Safety

Policies for clinical and organisational risk management

Strategies for modernisation, innovation and sustainability.

Job responsibilities

The Service Manager will contribute to the achievement of Corporate and locality (LDU) objectives by leading effective operational management for agreed service area of responsibility.

They will deliver work across a large and diverse range of communities within a complex commissioning environment.

The post holder will contribute to the development of the identity and structure of the LDU ensuring clear accountability within their local areas and establishing clear accountability for all key result areas and performance management arrangements to ensure effective service delivery.

The Service Manager will work in close partnership with Service Users, Carers, Clinical Staff, Trust performance Management and Finance Staff, Corporate Services, Human Resources, Primary Care, Independent and Not for Profit Organisations in the delivery of operational services.

Person Specification

Criteria for Shortlisting


  • Must have extensive extensive portfolio management experience and optimising service delivery
  • Registered professional with significant relevant experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of community services and healthcare systems.
  • Project and change management expertise, including strong project management skills and proficiency in leading and coordinating projects to completion.
  • Budget management skills and experience in developing and overseeing budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • System working experience and proficiency, such as the ability to navigate and collaborate with system partners, in MDT's and leverage resources to enhance service delivery.


  • Relevant experience and knowledge of Bristol services.
