We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-motivated Band 6 Quality officer to join the Transfusion team in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board at our Grange University Hospital site. The post-holder will take responsibility for the Transfusion Quality Management System (QMS).

The Grange University Hospital has been designed to treat our most seriously ill patients, or those with significant injuries, and it is the designated trauma unit for Gwent.

The hub is in the purpose built, modern Blood Sciences laboratory at the Grange University Hospital, with the aim to deliver high quality Haematology, Coagulation, Immunology & Blood Transfusion services.

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from suitably qualified Biomedical Scientists, who have HCPC registration, significant relevant experience working in a Hospital Transfusion Laboratory who have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

Annex 21 Band 6 Trainees may be considered for any suitably experienced band 5 staff who don't yet hold, but are working towards the relevant qualifications at 70% of a Band 6 salary.

Full time, part time or job share applications will be considered.

The post is a full time permanent role, covering 37.5 hours over a 5 day working week.

The post may be required to rotate across all sites in ABUHB, this includes the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny and the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran.

The department has full UKAS accreditation & is MHRA Compliant. It is an approved IBMS training laboratory where continuous professional development (CPD) and completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio (if required) is actively encouraged and supported.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

The Transfusion Quality officer is responsible delivering the quality agenda within ABUHB and liaises and cooperates with other members of the ABUHB Blood Sciences Quality team and senior staff in Blood Transfusion & Blood Sciences to deliver the wider quality objectives.

You will:

* Manage the transfusion audit schedule and documentation in accordance with MHRA requirements.
  • Manage the investigation of laboratory related transfusion incidents & errors. This also involves the reporting to MHRA, SHOT & DATIX as well as setting CAPA and trending analysis.
  • Assist with the management of non-compliances highlighted in audits and inspections.
  • Prepare Quality reports for the various departmental meetings.
