Join our team as a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse within the Emergency Department (ED) at the James Paget University Hospital Foundation Trust where you will oversee the daily operations of the nursing team, ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Main duties of the job

Working in collaboration with the Senior Nurse, you will support their leadership and provide guidance and mentorship to the nursing team as well as ensuring compliance with the relevant quality and safety standards your leadership and communication skills will be essential in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that empowers the nursing team to achieve their full potential. In addition, you will be required to work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes and contribute to the ongoing improvement of ED services.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications


  • Registered Nurse on NMC register
  • Nursing Degree/Diploma acceptable if suitably experienced
  • RCN Emergency Nursing level 2


  • Further studies at masters level in relevant subject
  • Leadership qualification
  • ALS

Knowledge and Experience


  • Significant experience in Emergency Department
  • Demonstrates effective leadership
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current professional issues in emergency care
  • Can evidence continuous professional development


  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrates competence in risk assessment/patient safety protocols
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and personal skills



  • Can demonstrate Critical Thinking skills - Rapid decision making, able to prioritise workload
