Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS, Salisbury) for 2 HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist posts to join our dynamic team of genomic scientists. Both posts are permanent and based in the Rare Disease section. Experience in at least some of the following is essential: analysis of WGS and/or NGS panels, microarrays, karyotypes, FISH variant interpretation (SNV and/or CNV) complex data analysis and reporting. STP/route 2 trainees close to completion of relevant training will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, now WGLS (Salisbury) and Molecular Pathology based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The WGLS is also a member of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub.

Qualifications / training required


  • Honours degree in relevant science subject.
  • MSc in relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge
  • HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist


  • PhD in subject relevant to clinical speciality
  • Working towards FRCPath.

Previous or relevant experience necessary


  • Highly skilled and knowledgeable in appropriate subject.
  • Leadership skills.


  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of clinical (speciality) service and service provision in a range of sub-specialities.Interview, ApplicationX

  • To have the knowledge and experience necessary to participate in the provision of a diagnostic clinical service
