We are seeking to recruit a Band 8a Occupational Therapy Professional Lead to join our fantastic multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital to provide assessment, risk management, care and treatment to aid recovery and further the patient journey.

As Occupational Therapy Professional Lead, you will:

Be a highly specialist Occupational Therapist with significant clinical and professional experienceProvide leadership and management for the OT service at WathwoodProvide an in-depth understanding of OT impact across multiple clinical care streams within a team or care unitBe responsible for oversight of professional and strategic planning to utilise resources as appropriate

You will be required to complete mandatory training to assist your professional development.

Provide a creative outlook and horizon scanning to ensure that the profession delivers services that are as effective as possible, reflecting the needs of the local population and financial resources, now and into the future.Acts as the Occupational Therapy Professional advisor to Care Unit/Care Group to achieve an effective patient centred service.Provides clinical and professional leadership for the profession across multiple clinical teams/services/care unitsEstablishes forums across areas, connecting profession and reducing disenfranchisement and isolationRepresents the profession at agreed forums within the Care Unit, Care Group and Trust wide Professional Advisory GroupsProvides expert professional and specialist advice to the management team and clinicians regarding clinical, professional and service development issues to support transformation, business and clinical governanceEnsures compliance with national standards and implementation within the specialism and profession ensuring consistent delivery of best practiceChallenges clinical practice from a position of professional knowledge and expertiseProvides professional supervision to staff plus clinical and managerial as appropriate.Acts as a role model, supporting and motivating othersUndertakes workforce planning, skill mix reviews, staff recruitment and retention analysis.Leads recruitment of uni-professional staff and improves recruitment and retention through uunderstanding specific local demography and impact on service demand and supplyAssess, develop, support and implement programs of care and treatment to meet the complex and specialist needs of the patients.Promotes multi-disciplinary liaison and collaborative practice within and between services, care units, wider Trust and other agencies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Member of professional body as appropriate
  • Recognised professional Occupational therapy qualification
  • Registered with HCPC

  • Member of RCOT special interest group


Training

Essential

  • Evidence of relevant post-registration specialist professional knowledge and experience acquired through recognised academic study, practical clinical education, or attendance at relevant specialist courses.
  • Leadership qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of service development and resource management
  • Recent experience of developing and managing an Occupational Therapy Service
  • Extensive Post Graduate experience as an Occupational Therapist in mental health.
  • Evidence of appraising and developing staff
  • Evidence of effective staff and trainee supervision
  • Evidence of effective liaison with other agencies, services and professional colleagues
  • Evidence of recruitment and retention of staff
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of producing reports
  • Evidence of independently undertaking evidence-based practice
  • Basic IT skills

  • Experience working in forensics
