The children's outpatient's department is a dynamic friendly paediatric department at Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone. We serve a diverse population and care for children and young people admitted with acute nursing and medical needs aged 0-18 years.

We are a small friendly and welcoming team.

We are located at Whipps cross hospital, Leytonstone, London E11 1NR.

This is a full time post, 37.5 hrs per week.

The service is open from 08.30- 17.30

About the Role

Working as a Staff Nurse in the outpatient's department. You will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of nursing care. You will work within a small team, supervising and directing junior staff. The role involves liaising with clinicians from a wide variety of specialties, including diabetes, asthma, allergy ophthalmology and neonatal.

Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual patients and to supervise junior staff in this activity.

Ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for all patients and their families.

Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence based nursing care.

Carry out observations, investigations and treatments as required.

Main duties of the job

To provide effective family centered nursing care to patients and their families.Ensure that evidence based practice is performed at all times, takingresponsibility for updating own knowledge and skill in line with Trust policies andprocedures and NMC Code .For newly qualified band 5 nurses, it will be an important step in consolidatingpractice and completing all relevant clinical competencies, receiving adequatesupport form colleagues.

Qualifictaion and Knowledge


  • RSCN/RN Child


  • Assessing and mentoring qualification



  • Knowledge of resource management
  • Knowledge in education process of patients, families, students, and other registered and non-registered staff
  • Knowledge and experience of providing nursing care for children within an acute paediatric setting
  • Awareness of working with children and their families within a multicultural environment
