Are you interested in a career in Children's OT? But have no experience? Then this could be the role for you!

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Band 5 or Band 6 Occupational Therapist who wishes to develop specialist skills in community Paediatrics within a supportive team. We are looking for a creative, friendly, and enthusiastic OT to join our established Children's Team. We are located near Enfield Town, with easy commuter links from central London/Hertfordshire.

No experience of children's OT is necessary, but you will need to have worked for at least 9 months as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist. We will provide on the job training in paediatrics so you can complete your Band 6 Clinical Competencies over the first 12 months in the team. If successful, you will transition internally to a Band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

Main duties

Your job will be to provide specialised assessment and intervention to children (0-18years) with varying needs in community settings, special schools, clinic, and CDC. You will work alongside the MDT on integrated pathways, including the joint DCD diagnostic clinic.

Enfield OT is committed to evidence-based practice you will have the opportunity to gain skills in CO-OP, M-CIMT and Parent Coaching, as well as running groups and parents and school staff training sessions. We are an innovative team and one of the first children's services to develop leisure groups with local community providers.

This role includes participating in service development and in-service training provision.

You will be expected to work on your Band 6 professional competencies throughout your first year within the team. If successfully completed, you will transition to Band 6 within the Team.

Job responsibilities

To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to children aged 0-18years referred to Enfield's Children's Occupational Therapy Department.

To contribute to planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Children's Occupational Therapy Service. To contribute to service improvements and Quality initiatives within the team.

To be responsible for a defined caseload of children both within the community and special school, working autonomously with regular access to supervision and clinical support.

Job responsibilities

To provide assessment and interventions for children with OT needs and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to families, carers, schools, and other professionals.

To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of children and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention.

To select and apply appropriate Occupational Therapy assessments for children, addressing occupational performance and enabling the child in areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.

To set occupationally focused intervention goals with children and/or their parents/carers that are family centred and agreed by the child and/or their parents/carers.

To work within an occupational frame of reference.

To demonstrate the ability to analyse the interplay of the child, environment and activity when assessing the childs level of functioning and identifying appropriate strategies and intervention to facilitate and enhance participation in self-care, school, and play/leisure.

To demonstrate specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using current research, and clinical reasoning skills.

To plan and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with the child/carer.

To provide advice and training to carers and schools in order to facilitate the childs participation levels through adaptations to the social and physical environment.

To monitor, evaluate and modify interventions through the use of appropriate outcome measures, to ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload.

Person Specification

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• Dip. COT or BS / Msc OT or international equivalent
• HPC Registered OT
• Evidence of CPD

Desirable

• Fieldwork Education Certificate
• Clean Driving Licence
• Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy
• Manual Handling Training.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Ability to meet the demands of the post including travel and working at a child's level.

Desirable

• Clean driving licence
• Vehicle owner.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Minimum 9 months postgraduate OT experience
• Experience of self-directed learning
• Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

• Experience of working with children
• Experience of working within an occupational frame of reference
• Experience of providing Supervision
