Main duties of the job

Lead the provision of specialist clinical knowledge and advice to other nursing staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers and partner organisations.? Lead the provision of education and training for nursing and allied healthprofessionals, including health promotion.? The post holder will take a lead role within a team who, in collaboration with the multi-professional team co-ordinate and develop pathways for patients who require safeguarding.? Work collaboratively with the wider safeguarding teams to embed the 'Think Family ' approach.? Work with the Trust safeguarding team and Local authority safeguarding teams to support the implementation of the multi-agency safeguarding procedures.

Job responsibilities

To hold a supportive role in promoting good professional safeguarding practice within the safeguarding team at Gateshead. To support the safeguarding lead with the provision of education and training to clinical staff, demonstrating a high degree of professional nursing skill, competency, and knowledge in Safeguarding practice within the safeguarding adultsteam at Gateshead. To be visible and support the Safeguarding Lead in providing advice andsupport regarding safeguarding within the Trust. To advise staff on the policies and procedures related to the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. To support the safeguarding team in ensuring all staff have access tosafeguarding training and supervision appropriate to their role and whichenables the organisation to fulfil its statutory responsibilities for training. Support with collection of collating audit data. To provide clinical leadership, expertise and specialist clinical advice andsupport to clinical staff on the management and care of patients who require safeguarding. To improve the quality of care received by individuals who require safeguarding in the acute hospital setting and the community. To lead and participate in the continuing improvement of services in line with the Trust objectives. To work in partnership and build links with staff and external partners. Providing advice re assessments of special needs such as mental capacity,mental health act assessment and deprivation of liberties assessments. To support the MCA/DOLs team in providing advice and support to staff in relation to Mental capacity act and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC registration (Level 1 adult nurse, children, mental health, Learning Disability)
  • Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
  • Evidence of further study in safeguarding adults


Desirable

  • Management and leadership training.


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post registration experience including participation in adult safeguarding procedures.
  • Evidence of practice development.
  • Evidence of innovation in practice


Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of working within a safeguarding role or transferable experience within the acute / community setting.
  • Participated in safeguarding supervision


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathetic or reassurance skills are required.
  • Proven interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills.


Desirable

  • Counselling and appraisal skills
  • Research skills.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Thorough understanding of contemporary issues appropriates to the post.
  • Knowledge of current professional and Clinical Governance issues.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of Legislation and National Guidelines that drives safeguarding adult policy and practice.
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Knowledge of and participation in research and/or clinical audit.
