Act as an expert in Head and Neck nursing

Responsible for the management of a specified group of patients.

In conjunction with the lead clinician and Head and Neck Nurse team you will be involved in the development and implementation of comprehensive packages of education and support for patients and their carers/relatives.

You will be expected to run a nurse led clinic when competent.

In conjunction with the lead clinician you will be involved in the development of clinical services following national and local guidance including NICE.

Be able to identify problems which effect planning and delivery of patient care and actively work towards solving them empowering others to make decisions

Previous experience within ENT and Surgery is required
Current band 6's would be considered as a development opportunity into this role. Annex 21 would be applied throughout the training and development whilst working towards this band 7 role.
You will be paid trainee salary:Pay will beAnnexU/21:

o Year 1- 70% of the top of a Band 7

oYear 2 - 75% of the top of a Band 7

Main duties of the job

To act as a clinical nurse specialist or team leader for a group of nurse specialists, the post holder will assess, plan, implement & evaluate individualised programmes of evidence based care providing specialist advice to patients, carers/relatives, and the multidisciplinary team on a specific clinical condition or topic.

The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to develop/improve services and quality of care delivered across the health economy

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications


  • o1st level registered nurse educated to degree level.
  • oPost registration clinical course or qualification in specialist area that has enhanced clinical practice
  • oEducated to Masters degree level, on a master pathway
  • oRegistered Mentor/Assessor
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development
  • oCompleted accredited communication skills training.


  • oAdvance communication skills
  • oNon-Medical Prescriber.



  • oEvidence of management and leadership experience.
  • oCurrent knowledge and experience of caring for patients with condition related to specialty.
  • oEvidence of clinical competence and credibility in the specialty and relevant post-registration qualification experience which must be in an appropriate area of specialist practice at a senior level.
