We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to lead the Dietetics Acute Team in Ipswich and East Suffolk.

Working as part of the Integrated Pathways Division alongside our therapy and speech and language colleagues the successful candidate will be passionate about providing nutritional care to inpatients and outpatients in the hospital setting. We are looking for an individual who is confident in motivating the team to deliver a seamless service and advice/training to staff in different areas of the hospital.

You will have responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the acute team and requires a range of skills and experience including the ability to communicate effectively lead and support staff and manage a defined caseload of complex inpatients including patients requiring artificial nutrition support.

The Dietetic Team consists of 26 staff including Dietitians and Dietetic Support Staff providing an integrated adult and paediatric service to acute and community settings. You will have access to clinical supervision and have opportunities to undertake continuing professional development as identified by your training needs and objectives.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the leadership team in the Nutrition and Dietetic Service with specific responsibility for the operational management and delivery of the dietetic community services across a variety of settings.

To contribute to the strategic direction and service development of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service under the leadership of the Professional Lead for Dietetics in support of patient pathway redesign/integration and digitally enabled care.

To be lead clinical dietitian foracute services, including promoting high quality care to inpatients and outpatients.

To provide a source of expertise to patients, carers, medical practitioners, AHPs and social care within the hospital.

To manage a defined complex clinical caseload.

To lead the planning, development and evaluation of defined service improvement and transformation projects within Nutrition and Dietetics.

To provide professional leadership involving recruitment, supervision, appraisal and development of staff in the Nutrition and Dietetic Service with the support of the Professional Lead for Dietetics.

To lead the training of colleagues, Nutrition and Dietetic staff and students

To contribute to the budget and performance management in delegated areas of the Nutrition and Dietetic service

Qualifications

Essential

  • oDegree/Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics
  • oRegistration with the Health Professionals Council
  • oMember of British Dietetic Association
  • oMembership of relevant BDA specialist groups
  • oAbility to travel between locations


Desirable

  • oEvidence of other post registration education and training in area of speciality
  • oLeadership qualifications e.g. LEO, supervisory skills, management training
  • oBehaviour change / motivational interviewing / counselling training


Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive post registration experience in a range of clinical areas with experience at senior level.
  • oExperience of working in critical care
  • oExperience of enteral and parenteral feeding
  • oProven line management and recruitment of junior members of staff
  • oProven line management and recruitment of junior members of staff
  • oFacilitating training and education
  • oPortfolio of evidence of CPD
  • oProject management


Desirable

  • oExperience of leading service development/change
  • oSpecialist knowledge acquired through non-medical independent prescribing qualification (nb. no prescribing will be undertaken as part of this role)
  • oExperience of multi-agency and collaborative working

Essential

  • oBroad up to date knowledge and practical application of clinical dietetics
  • oClinical knowledge of adult dietetics.
  • oKnowledge and understanding of BDA professional standards
  • oIntermediate IT skills e.g.Keyboard skills, PowerPoint

  • oClinical supervisory skills
