The post is suited for a self-motivated, dynamic and flexible individual, who is able to adapt to changing demands, able to process information and interpret accordingly. To beable to organise own workload and prioritise work as it comes into the department, to remain calm and professional under pressure and to be able to respect confidentiality guidelines. Ability to work autonomously as well as part of the wider team is essential.

The post holder will support senior manager's in the research & development team on a day to day basis. Thus, enabling the Surrey & Borders Partnership Foundation NHS Trust's (SABP) research strategy to be implemented throughout the Trust, by providing support and training to junior members of staff. Also to cover for any absence of senior management.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be allocated responsibility for the set up and delivery of studies and support a caseload of commercial studies. Also the post holder will be expected to have the necessary experience and skills to enable the successful set up of clinical trials, and to be the main point of contact for support and advice in all governance regulatory approvals for clinical trials by assisting with governance, costing and contracting of research activity across the Trust. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable people who use services to make informed choices concerning their involvement in the clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as their advocate.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will ensure that recruitment to commercially sponsored studies is on time and to target, in line with the locality plans, national High-Level Objectives (HLOs) and to a high quality standard and will act as a source of advice and guidance.

They will also oversee the workload of more junior staff, directing the delivery element of research projects. This will include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating research interactions and providing support to participants who have been or have potential to be recruited onto a trial programme.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Psychology degree or health related degree
  • Masters degree in a health related subject


Desirable

  • PhD qualification in Mental Health, or working towards PhD in Mental Health


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a NHS clinical research environment
  • Experience of NHS managment


Desirable

  • Experience of setting up commercial clinical trials (phase II & III)
