Wehave part time 'Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology' postacross our large, welcoming and friendly Team at Combined Healthcare, a CQC-rated 'Outstanding' Mental Health Trust. Posts are available due to service expansions and developments, and will covervarious inpatient and outpatient services (including acute inpatient, post- acute inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient neuropsychology and neurocommunity MDT provision).

The roles will involve contributing to the assessment, formulation and treatment of patients with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions. Opportunities will be available for individual, peer and group supervision (in line with BPS requirements), accessing CPD, research and audit, and service development.

There is some flexibility to allow home working for part of the week, depending on service need.

Preceptorship up to Band 8a will be available after 24 months in post, if all developmental requirements are met.

Main duties of the job

Core features of the roles will include:
  • Working alongside a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide high quality psychological formulation and intervention for patients
  • Administration, scoring, interpretation, report-writing and feeding back of neuropsychological assessments, screening tools and outcome measures
  • Providing structured interventions
  • Supported by an Assistant Psychologist
  • Working with people who have complex needs which can present/lead to challenging situations or behaviours and risk.
  • Contributing to service development and evaluation projects
  • Previous experience of working with adults with physical, cognitive or mental health problems is essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary team would be an advantage.
  • Working in inpatient setting, however some home working will be supported

You will be part of a large neuropsychology department, and have good links to peers across the conurbation, via Special Interest Groups and cross-Trust training events and supervision groups. Excellent CPD is available.

Job responsibilities

  • Delivery of neuropsychologically-informed assessment, rehabilitation and individual/group psychological interventions
  • Post-holders will work under the supervision of a Senior/Principal Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist.
  • Post holder may be required to work with clients who are highly distressed, anxious or hostile and will experience sensitive situations frequently.
  • Working independently, with regular supervision
  • To contribute to/conduct audits and service evaluation/research projects
  • Contributing to teaching and training
  • Good organisational skills as well as an ability to work to deadlines and produce high quality work
  • The ability to cope with psychologically distressing patient information is essential

Person Specification



  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registration as a clinical/counselling practitioner psychologist



  • Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
