The Senior Major Projects Manager has a crucial role in Major Projects across CUH. You will be responsible for supporting and managing the delivery of Major Projects at CUH that are critical in enabling the organisation to meet its aims and vision and deliver its strategy. The Major Projects may be individual projects, stages of a larger project, or work streams of a Major Projects programme with dependencies on other projects within the Major Projects programme. The Trust is about to embark on an ambitious piece of work to develop a long-term strategy and plan for acute healthcare services on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and within surrounding communities, and we would envisage you being actively involved in this work.

An expert facilitator, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities and plans as well as risks and issues. You will operate as a skilled negotiator and 'unblocker' to drive progress towards delivering their areas of responsibility. You will be responsive to the changing needs of the health and care system. The role is crucial for creating and maintaining focus, enthusiasm and momentum. The Senior Major Projects Manager is responsible for the overall integrity and coherence of the programme of work they are allocated.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the development and implementation of programme planning and governance methodology for use in all Major Project workstreams.

Supporting the Director of Major Projects and Assistant Directors of Major Projects in the role of critical friend to enable CUH teams to develop detailed project plans and governance in line with methodology above.

Supporting the development and active maintenance of an overall Major Projects programme plan to ensure and track delivery.

Supporting the coordination of workstreams identification of interdependencies, risks and issues 'unblocker' of issues to enable projects to progress.

Supporting the production of business cases, including those requiring external funding, providing expert professional knowledge to facilitate their development.

Reporting of progress to the Assistant Directors of Major Projects and Director of Major Projects as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Masters level or demonstrable equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Evidence of Project Management training or sufficient experience that demonstrates equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.


Desirable

  • Managing Successful Programmes/ Prince2 Practitioner (or equivalent experience).
  • Better Business Cases Foundation level.


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of developing project strategies.
  • Extensive experience of managing large scale complex programmes and projects using recognised methodology (e.g. Prince 2) and tracking and monitoring their implementation.
  • Experience of the identification and management of risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Experience of developing performance indicators to monitor project and programme delivery.
  • Experience of change management with proven negotiating and influencing skills both internally and externally.
  • Experience of project budgets knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Experience of benefits realisation.
  • Experience of producing business cases.
  • Experience of developing documents and policies.
  • Evidence of working with multi-disciplinary staff across a diverse professional organisation to specify solutions to support the successful delivery of projects.

  • Considerable experience of project and programme management.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of developing project strategies.
  • Knowledge of recognised methodology (e.g. Prince 2).
  • Knowledge of change management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation.
