The children's physiotherapy team, based at St Mary's Hospital, provides a comprehensive acute and community service to Central and North Westminster and North Kensington and Chelsea localities. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 8 month fixed term Band 6 Paediatric Physiotherapist within the Woodfield Child Development Service (CDS) covering maternity leave from 1st September 2024. CDS physiotherapists work within an established multi-disciplinary team providing community physiotherapy for 0-19 year olds with SEND in North RBKC and Westminster. The post holder will deliver physiotherapy for children and young people across a community caseload in homes, educational facilities and outpatient clinics at Woodfield Road Medical Centre. Support is provided by an experienced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and from Band 7 and Band 6 community physiotherapy colleagues. Close working relationships exist between children's community multi-disciplinary service and the acute paediatric and neonatal services, to promote clinical excellence and provide continuity of care for children and young people. Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to patients in all service areas
  • To acquire and demonstrate knowledge of relevant pathologies, conditions, normal values relating to the specialist area of physiotherapy.
  • To be responsible for own caseload and be responsible within a defined area of the service and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To supervise and contribute to the training and development of therapy support workers, band 5 physiotherapists and students.
  • To undertake service development projects to further own and team's clinical practice within each area.
  • To make recommendations for service development, with active involvement in the implementation of changes to practice or service protocols.
  • To participate in one of the out of hours weekend working and overnight respiratoryon-call rota (specific rota details are held locally within departments) dependant onspeciality area

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio
  • Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity.


Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to speciality


Experience

Essential

  • Recent substantial and sustained experience in relevant physiotherapy specialities and clinical settings
  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of clinical education of staff, students or assistants
  • Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute hospital
  • To have undertaken audit and/or research, either within area of physiotherapy speciality or as part of the MDT


Desirable

  • Previous experience in the NHS as a qualified physiotherapist
  • Previous senior physiotherapist experience in relevant post
  • Involvement with Clinical Governance issues and an understanding of their relation to patient care


Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

  • Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area
  • Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/ experience/circumstances and utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers.
  • Able to work flexibly responding to the needs of the service.


Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD relevant to role and specialist area.
