The Assistant Service Manager will support the clinical and management teams in the day to day running of the Paediatrics Department, as well as provide comprehensive administrative support. The post holder will line manage and work as the leader of a team of paediatric secretaries and administrative staff, ensuring equitable workload distribution and excellent standards of support across the team. The post will support the Service Manager (Paediatrics) in the delivery of administrative and clerical support services and the development of quality information management systems, facilitating operational delivery and act as a patient advocate and problem solver during the patient's journey.
Main duties of the job
To support the clinical and management teams in the day to day running of paediatric admissions within Children's Services. To line manage the Paediatric secretarial/admin team, overseeing the consultants' clinics, waiting list, booking of admissions for patients in order and within specified timeframes. To co-ordinate the efficient use of theatre and bed space for paediatric admissions. The post holder will support the delivery of administrative and clerical support services and the development of quality information management systems, facilitating operational delivery and act as a patient advocate and problem solver during the patient's journey. To support the Service Manager in managing paediatric waiting lists and ensuring that patients are seen within the national target times. To manage a team of A& C staff on the day-to-day operational delivery of administration and clerical work, including line management responsibilities and workload monitoring. Manage human and financial resources to help deliver local and national performance targets, and other national standards.

Our medical specialities include: Allergy, Asthma, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Epilepsy, Respiratory and Rheumatology with a joint treatment centre for Oncology with the Royal Marsden Hospital. These services offer a seamless transition from birth through to transition to adulthood.

- Degree or equivalent experience in the Acute NHS (large hospital) Settings
- RSA III (or equivalent experience)
Desirable
- Higher level education, qualification in business administration or an admin NVQ)
- ECDL
- Post graduate business or management qualification

- 3 years secretarial / administration experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience of working within a hospital
- Experience in establishing/maintaining robust admin systems
- Experience in a role covering staff supervision, attendance management, responsibility for excellent customer service and service development
- Experience of managing a PTL
