We are looking for enthusiastic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapists to join Rehabilitation and High Support services. Due to recent investment, we have two new posts: Clinical Lead OT for Rehabilitation Services (Inpatient) and Clinical Lead OT for Low Secure and PICU services. You will have leadership, clinical and managerial skills developed through experience and postgraduate training, providing expert knowledge and support to occupational therapy staff to facilitate the delivery of evidence-based rehabilitation and recovery pathways to service users with complex mental health conditions. You will work in partnership with clinical service managers, operational managers, senior OT staff and the Principal OT to ensure a consistent approach to the governance of occupational therapy practice across Rehabilitation and High Support services and the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an experienced and confident practitioner with clinical experience in mental health, an ability to demonstrate high levels of initiative and an interest in further developing their leadership skills. The role will include
  • Providing clinical and management supervision for occupational therapy staff
  • Supporting continuing professional development for occupational therapy staff and occupational therapy learners (students and apprentices)
  • Providing highly specialised assessments and interventions using evidenced based and person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
  • Advocating for occupational therapy's role and contribution to Rehabilitation and High Support and Trust wide services.
  • Supporting the recruitment and retention of occupational therapy staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To take the lead in the development and management of the Occupational Therapy service in Rehabilitation and High Support (RHS), using highly specialist clinical and managerial skills developed through experience and post graduate training, ensuring quality of service and compliance with the Trusts core values, standards and regulations.

The post holder will work in partnership with occupational therapy staff, clinical service managers, operational managers, service users and carers to develop and support evidence based rehabilitation and recovery pathways for service users in RHS inpatient services. They will support the RHS occupational therapy workforce ensuring person centered, occupation focused, high quality, safe and effective OT service delivery across RHS inpatient services.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Accredited fieldwork educator
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses / CPD
  • Clinical supervision Training
  • Post registration study equivalent to master's level
  • Management / leadership training


Desirable

  • Speciality related postgraduate qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience which demonstrates competencies to meet the job description activity including practice at a clinical specialism level
  • Current specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and intervention relevant to Rehabilitation and High Support service users occupational needs.
  • Applying and interpreting standardised OT assessments
  • Proven experience of line management / supervision of OTs / support staff
  • Extensive experience of supervision of OT students and/or OT apprentices
  • Demonstrable experience of involvement in service development
  • Research and Audit experience
  • Experience of supporting effective change management within teams


Desirable

  • Evidence of post graduate research experience
  • Evidence of leading a team of OT's

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Demonstrable knowledge of up-to-date evidence based practice
  • Applied knowledge of relevant national policy and legislation related to people with complex mental health needs and/or complex behaviours requiring rehabilitation.
  • Awareness and knowledge of factors relating to Occupational Therapy service provision within Rehabilitation and High Support inpatient services
  • Experience of applying the Model of Human Occupation to assess and evaluate service user outcomes.
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of clinical quality and its application in practice
