Based in the Estates Governance Team within the wider Estates & Facilities department of the Trust's Corporate Division at Rotherham Hospital, the post holder will work closely with the Moving & Handling Lead to provide moving and handling advice and training to relevant staff across the Trust's acute and community sites.

Main duties of the job

Two key purposes of the role are to:

1. provide effective moving and handling advice

2. deliver high quality training to all staff across the Trust.

We seek a knowledgeable colleague with a blend of skills, knowledge, attitude, training and experience to deliver the three key purposes of the role. The successful applicant will be self-motivated with a passion for driving improvements in patient experience. They will enjoying working collaboratively in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team within the Estates department.

Person Specification



  • Experience of people handling in a clinical environment.
  • Experience of the risk assessment process and its application into practice.



  • Knowledge of safe people and load handling techniques and the use of manual handling equipment within the acute hospital and community.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, relevant codes of practice and Department of Health guidelines appropriate to moving and handling.
  • Undertaken up to date continuing professional development (CPD) in moving and handling.
  • Computer literacy in the use of MS Office programmes, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.


  • Knowledge of the use of electronic patient records.



  • Validated Level 4 Advanced Manual Handling trainers qualification or equivalent (or working towards or willing to achieve within 6 months).
  • Validated teaching qualifications, e.g. City and Guilds 7304/PTLLS.
  • Completed recognised risk assessment package.


  • Completed recognised Display Screen Assessor (DSE) course (or willing to achieve within 6 months).
