I'm George, Staff Nurse for Mulberry 2. I was drawn to work for the Mulberry wards as a newly qualified nurse because of the knowledge and skills you can gain from working in inpatient services. I feel supported by the team and find it rewarding to work with patients who are able to actively engage with their treatment, I love working as part of a multidisciplinary team in this fast-paced, innovative model.

At CPFT our adult inpatient wards operate an exciting, ambitious model of care, known as the 3-3-3 model, focussed on providing the right care at the right time. The Cambridge Wards are known as the Mulberry Wards Mulberry 1 our Acute Assessment Unit, where patients stay up to 3 days, Mulberry 2, our Treatment ward, where patients stay up to 3 weeks, and Mulberry 3, our Recovery Unit, where patients stay up to 3 months.

Working on the Mulberry wards you get to support patients on their journey from an episode of acute illness towards recovery. The model is designed to support patients in accessing appropriate treatment and preventing unnecessary lengthy hospital stays.

Main duties of the job

The wards bold model requires staff to have a commitment to teamwork, a sense of accountability, and an ability to work well under pressure when required.

If you are successful, we will support you in providing quality evidence-based nursing care for our service users with mental and physical health needs. As a staff nurse you will interact frequently with carers and families providing support and advice where appropriate.

You will be working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and will be responsible for supporting and leading on the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care on a rotational shift basis. We will expect you to have a good level of knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision.

We will expect you to identify and contribute to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
