Magnolia Suite is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist for Magnolia suite.

Magnolia is the Assertive Outreach (AOT) inpatient ward providing enhanced care and support for male patients being cared for under the Assertive Outreach model across Birmingham and Solihull. You will be working a complex client group of men with severe and enduring mental health conditions and a history of difficult engagement, often with dual diagnosis and comorbid conditions.

You will be working closely with AO community teams to optimise function and take the lead on complex discharge planning. On the ward you will be expected to quickly establish rapport and focus on relationship building and collaborative goal setting to support positive routines, motivation and maximise independence. A good understanding of risk management and a positive approach to risk is essential to support this complex client group.

You should demonstrate strong leadership skills and have excellent communication and professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, with the ability to work autonomously as well as within an effective multi disciplinary team and external partner agencies and stakeholders. You will be expected to support the day-to-day decision making in the team, be significantly involved in facilitating supervision, taking forward quality initiatives, implementing change and service developments that support the trust strategy.

Main duties of the job

You will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team in providing high quality, evidence- based, holistic assessments and individualised packages of care to patients in line with your RCOT professional code of conduct and Trust policies.

You will conduct OT assessments, develop, and agree collaborative care plans, and deliver a range of OT interventions both 1-1 and group based upon individual service user needs. Assessments and interventions can take place in patient's homes, team bases, hospital, and other community settings.

You may be required to provide supervision and or management of lower banded staff within your professional group.

You will be expected to contribute to student education and placement provision.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians, and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering.

You will be involved in a variety of professional roles, demonstrating excellent communicate and professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, with the ability to work on your own initiative and as a committed team player. You will provide leadership within the team to include supporting the day-to-day decision making in the team, being significantly involved in facilitating supervision, taking forward quality initiatives, implementing change and service developments that support the trust strategy. You will be expected to be flexible in your approach and to welcome the opportunity to build on your existing experience and skills.

This position would be ideal for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a vision to develop their career and clinical expertise within dementia and frailty. The post would require the successful applicant to have experience within mental health services and have a sound awareness of risk management in this environment. You will be expected to utilise specialist functional assessments and interventions including the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) which is primarily used within the trust. You will have the direct support of the Ward Manager, Matron, a Band 7 Lead OT, OT Consultant, other Band 6 staff and activity worker.

You will be provided with opportunity to identify unique development needs, reflect on and enhance their skills and knowledge as well as receive ongoing support on a regular basis.
