RESEARCH NURSE/AHP BAND 6
Our team covers the spectrum of Intensive Care, Emergency, Anaesthetics and Stroke Research we are looking for enthusiasm to learn, and experience of coordinating and driving projects forward.
We are a small, supportive, motivated, and high-performing team looking for a new member to coordinate and deliver studies that contribute to the progression of treatment for patients.
In this role, you will have the support of experienced research nurses and will develop to being responsible for the feasibility assessment, set up, and subsequent co-ordination recruitment and follow up to both commercial and non-commercial studies, working autonomously. We offer a departmental orientation program and encouragement to attend relevant research study days and meetings. The Research team visit clinical departments daily to and liaise with many different clinical teams, and patient groups.
The post holder will be employed by the Research & Development Department of North Bristol Trust who have recently been awarded Silver accreditation with Investors in People which underlines our commitment to support and lead our staff to be the best they can be.

Main duties of the job

- Assess trial protocols and advise on safety, regulatory and logistical issues in the running of the trial
- Engage in consent conversations with patients and families, offering them opportunities to take part in research.
- With the PI actively assess the feasibility of studies to be undertaken
- Performs all visits, observations, and interventions with the participants in accordance with the procedures and schedule of the study protocol.
- Maintain Investigator Site File(s) and complete Case Report File / eCRF with a high degree of accuracy
- Ensure appropriate trial information and data is contained in patient's hospital notes.
- Communicates to the senior research nurse / research nurse team / R& I / NIHR Clinical Research Network lead regarding research subjects, trial progress, workload issues and personal development.
- Ensure all data clarification issues are resolved quickly
- May be expected to supervise junior members of the team, under overall supervision and guidance of senior research staff.
- Competent in and uses on a daily basis word, spreadsheet and database programs, patient administration systems and the departmental software planning system wall chart.
- Regularly uses software to develop documents or reports, including spreadsheets for external agencies where manipulation of the formulae is required (e.g. electronic data capture).

- A qualified nurse with current NMC registration or AHP equivalent
- Experience of clinical research is desirable
- ICU, ED or Stroke experience would be advantageous
- Current Good Clinical Practice certificate

- RN with current live Registration (or equivalent AHP registration)
- Significant post registration experience
Desirable
- Current Good Clinical Practice Certification
- Degree level education in nursing or health related subject
Work Experience
Essential
- Experience of extended roles e.g. venepuncture, ECG's, link-roles (this list is not exhaustive)
- Ability to manage the logistics to support workload
- Able to work independently and manage day to day work activities
- Effective personal time and case load management
Desirable
- Experience in working in ICU, ED, Stroke or Theatres.
- Recent Clinical Research Experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

- Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
- Experience of delivering difficult news to patients and relatives.
