An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Directorate Manager within the Health Boards Adult Mental Health Directorate.

The post holder will be a key member of the directorate management team and will provide expertise and deputise for the directorate manager. The Adult Mental Health Directorate is a large and complex directorate sitting within the wider Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division. They will be expected to provide expertise and manage services within the directorate to ensure they are delivered effectively and efficiently in line with divisional strategic and operational objectives and policy.

The post holder will take a lead in managing, planning and facilitating programmes of work within the directorate and leading in specific sub specialities to support the Clinical Director, Directorate Manager and Lead Nurse. The post holder will lead on a range of programmes addressing performance and service issues. This responsibility will include a requirement to ensure that all resources used efficiently and effectively to provide these services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take a lead role in leading specific areas and programmes of work within the directorate as delegated and agreed with the Directorate Manager. This will involve overall management for a sub speciality service within the directorate.

In conjunction with the Clinical lead for specific areas the post holder will manage and lead programmes of work in line with local and national policy. This will include, leading on specific projects such as the implementation of new or changing services with responsibility for planning workforce, financial and other resources, setting out and gaining agreements for project plans and ensuring that there is a relevant system for performance management.

Person Specification

Qualfications & Knowledge


  • Educated to Master's Level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience Considerable experience of programme management. Planning and implementing service changes


  • Prince 2 project management skills or equivalent experience



  • Experience, working at a senior level in a large complex organisation Demonstrable experience of service development, implementation and planning in the NHS
  • Minimum of 3 years management experience in the NHS Experience of working with and involving user groups in developing and implementing service improvement and redesigning service models
