Acute Adult Dietitian (band 5) based at Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading Fixed Term until End March 25

This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated dietitian just starting their career who has excellent communication skills and a passion for patient centered care.

As the successful candidate, you will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital providing a dietetic service to adult inpatients and general outpatients, working closely with your MDT colleagues including consultants and specialist nurses.

This role will provide you with excellent and supported professional and personal development. As part of the team you will have opportunities to be involved with the training of dietetic students, other dietitians and healthcare professions. There are also opportunities to get involved with audit, research and service development

You would be joining a team of over 20 committed and welcoming dietitians, who work in a range of specialist areas at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Reading is the largest town in the UK with great shopping, nightlife, restaurants and London is less than half an hour by train.

We are a forward thinking department that has a strong focus on a patient centered service. We encourage service development and have an established quality improvement programme driving the service forward.

Main duties of the job

You will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading working closely with consultants, and ward staff to assess and advice patients. Our service uses a range of consultation settings to support our patients at all stages along their treatment pathway. Some of the areas of work include:
  • Being part of the MDT in assessing nutritional status
  • Advising and supporting patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Supporting the training of dietetic students
  • Implementing Quality Improvement programme to lead service development

    Person Specification



    • oDiploma / Degree in Dietetics
    • oCurrent HCPC registration

    Continuous Professional Development


    • Have completed or interested in talking: Student supervisory training
    • Have completed or interested in talking: Behaviour change training

    Previous Experience


    • oSome experience of working with groups.
    • oAn involvement in preparing/delivering a training session
    • oExperience of working in an acute clinical setting


    • oExperience of producing a simple dietetic resource e.g. leaflet, diet sheet, poster etc.

    Continuous Professional Development


    • oDemonstration that clinical skills are up to date

    Previous Experience


    • oExperience in applying of the dietetic process to include basic dietary assessment, interpretation individual care plan, motivation, monitoring and evaluation.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


    • oKnowledge of the concept of clinical audit and how it is implemented in dietetic practice.
    • oKnowledge of the purpose of departmental policies, procedures and care pathways.
    • oAn ability to communicate, on a one to one and group basis, with patients and a range of health care professionals.
    • oAn ability to write letters and reports.
