Are you a Dietitian with extensive experience of diabetes? Ready to hold a central role in developing and transforming services for people with diabetes living across North Wales? This Band 8a role as service lead for diabetes provides the strategic leadership for diabetes dietetics working across the health board.

The successful candidate will work closely with the overall clinical lead for diabetes, area dietetic teams and the three Heads of Dietetics as well as with dietetic diabetes leads across Wales. In addition to three days dedicated to leadership duties, the role includes two days of clinical management of patients with complex diabetes.

North Wales covers a vast geography, and so although travel has decreased since the advent of video meetings, there will still be a need to travel across the three areas that make up Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The wider dietetic departments across North Wales employ over 100 dietitians and dietetic assistants, supported by an administration team. We support continuing professional development and encourage learning from best practice from both within and external to BCUHB.

Main duties of the job

Work closely with the Clinical Lead for Diabetes in the health board to optimise and standardise diabetes care

Gain intimate knowledge of all relevant policies, guidelines and research within Wales and beyond, using these to inform the development of practice

Represent diabetes dietetics in the health board on relevant working groups and committees at an All Wales level.

Produce and manage data relating to the dietetic care of people with diabetes in North Wales

Devise and manage relevant audits on diabetes to inform service development and redesign.

Produce, execute and revise as needed a diabetes dietetics service plan for North Wales

Bring diabetes dietitians across North Wales together to plan,evaluate and improve services

Provide supervision for the Band 7 diabetes team lead dietitians across North Wales.

Person Specification



  • oHCPC Registered Dietitian (Bsc / Graduate degree in Dietetics)
  • oMasters Degree or equivalent experience in health related subject or working towards with completion in three years


  • oPost-graduate management qualification (certificate)



  • oSignificant clinical experience
  • oRelevant experience in a proven leadership role.
  • oLeadership training qualification or equivalent experience
  • oProven track record of significant continuous personal, professional and leadership development.



  • oAbility to analyse complex clinical issues/problems.
  • oAbility to think and plan operationally, strategically, tactically and creatively
  • oAbility to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working

Personal qualities


  • oHigh level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are able to meet the travel requirements of this post


  • oWelsh Language skills appropriate to a level needed to fulfil the duties of the role.
