Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced therapeutic radiographer to join the Radiotherapy department at the Royal Free London as a band 7 Radiographer. We are looking for a candidate with excellent team leadership and communication skills who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the treatment units ensuring delivery of a high level of service and patient care.

Successful applicants will be highly motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patients are at the heart of what we do so we are looking for Therapeutic Radiographers who can provide excellent care with compassion and respect. All Radiographers in bands 5 - 7 roles have the opportunity to rotate through pre-treatment and treatment. Successful candidates will be role models for demonstrating our Trust's values through their behaviours, will be able to work collaboratively across the multi-disciplinary team and will be committed to providing high quality patient care.

The Royal Free London is one of the largest and leading providers of cancer care in the UK. The Royal Free Radiotherapy Department has 2 Varian TrueBeams with Aria. There is an orthovoltage unit, a Toshiba CT-scanner, Pinnacle TPS, VMAT, IGRT, and respiratory gated radiotherapy. The department is accredited to both CHKS and ISO 9001:2015.

Education & professional Qualifications


  • BSc in Radiotherapy or DCR(T)- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent.
  • Must be registered with the HCPC
  • Evidence of appropriate CPD activity



  • Extensive practical radiotherapy experience on a range of equipment including experience as a band 6 radiographer or equivalent

Skills and aptitudes


  • Demonstrate good theoretical knowledge of a range of treatment techniques, advanced techniques, IGRT and planning
  • Demonstrate participation in the development and implementation of techniques and procedures
  • Demonstrates a high level of communication skills including the ability to deal with anxious and demanding patients an carers
  • Demonstrates and ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and an ability to motivate staff and build a team
  • Demonstrate a high level of organisation with problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrate the importance of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate good levels of coordination to ensure precise patient setup and treatment delivery
