An exciting opportunity has risen for an experienced and motivated midwife to work within an innovative and forward thinking integrated safeguarding team. The Specialist Midwife will work collaboratively with the safeguarding adult and children team members, clinical leads and multi-agency partners to ensure that the Trust Maternity and Neonatal service is meeting its statutory obligations for safeguarding whilst driving forward the safeguarding agenda.

We are seeking a highly experienced midwives with significant experience of safeguarding, who can demonstrate a sound knowledge base and leadership skills to improve the outcome for the care for families where there is concern for the safety of the unborn or delivered baby.

The successful applicants will need to be able to work independently within the safeguarding team, in an innovative and creative manner to support colleagues within the Trust to safeguard women and babies. The successful candidate will function in line with Trust values utilising excellent communication, organisational and presentation skills..

The post is full time, Monday - Friday 9am-5pm

Main duties of the job

To provide expert advice and support to midwives and medical staff in developing care for families where there is concern for the safety of the unborn or delivered baby.

To provide supervision to midwifery staff in accordance with SWBHT Child Protection Supervision Policy

Formulate new policies and update existing guidelines, in conjunction with the Safeguarding Children Lead, Named Nurse, Head of Midwifery, Consultant Midwife, the Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies, to address the needs of this group of women.

Provide advice and support to staff in situations deemedappropriate where there are complex needs including the co-ordination of multi-agency resources for individual clients in need.

To provide expert advice and support to midwives and medical staff in developing care for families where there is concern for the safety of the unborn or delivered baby

To participate in Individual Management Reviews (IMR) and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPR) processes as required and ensuring dissemination of recommendations and application of learning

    Person Specification

    Experience

    Essential

    • Able to demonstrate practice in all areas relating to midwifery.
    • Evidence of multidisciplinary working.
    • Education and training of multidisciplinary groups
    • Experience in monitoring and maintaining appropriate resources within budgetary constraints.
    • Demonstratable continuous post registration experience


    Knowledge

    Essential

    • Evidence of continued learning in area of specialism
    • Evidence of continued learning relating to midwifery.
    • Demonstrates specialist knowledge in safeguarding


    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Registered Midwife
    • NMC registration
    • Mentor/assessor training
    • Relevant teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998 City and Guilds 730 or commitment towards achievement this qualification.
    • Evidence of continuous professional development


    Desirable

    • Relevant safeguarding course or working towards qualification
    • Certificate in counselling or equivalent
    • EDCL (European Driving License)

    • Ability to write complex reports, actions plans, analysis of data
    • Good presentation skills
    • Excellent written communication
    • Ability to write and review policies and procedures
    • Ability to maintain accurate records
