An exciting opportunity to join the PCH physiotherapy department as an exercise practitioner. This successful applicant will work as a member of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Team, with specific responsibility to conduct and supervise the exercise components, through assessing, educating and supporting patients attending hospital, community and home-based exercise interventions.

Ensure patients' physical activities are developed and sustained in accordance with national guidelines and both national and local health and safety standards.

The post holder will work in partnership with members of the Musculoskeletal team, and any other relevant health professionals in providing expert advice to meet patient needs.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated exercise practitioner to join our Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Service in Prince Charles hospital.

We offer comprehensive mentoring and supervision and the post holder will benefit from a high ratio of seniors staff to support their learning and skills acquisition.

Opportunities include engaging with research and development, regular in service training and senior support. There is plenty of variety we run physiotherapy rehabilitation sessions in local leisure centres, hydrotherapy pools and core physiotherapy services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification



  • Relevant undergraduate Degree-level qualification e.g. BSc Sports and Exercise Science (or equivalent).
  • Up to date Specialist Exercise Instructor qualification e.g. BACPR Level 4 Cardiac, Level 4 Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation or equivalent, Level 3 personal trainer qualification.
  • Registration with an appropriate professional body i.e. BASES, CIMSPA.
  • Pathophysiology, aetiology and epidemiology of specialist area e.g. cardiovascular disease and heart failure, Lung Disease, paediatrics, rehabilitation principles.
  • Aware of current evidence base and national guidelines for exercise within specialist area e.g. cardiovascular disease and/or heart failure, lung disease, paediatrics, MSK rehabilitation.


  • BASES Certified Exercise Practitioner (or working towards).
  • Awareness of NICE guidelines relevant to area of work.



  • Ability to assess and risk stratify a clinical population.
  • Ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs.
