We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Children's Speech and Language Therapist who has experience of working with children with a wide range of communication difficulties, and enjoys working in community settings. You will join our Community teams working in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire. This post is open to newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists as well as those with previous experience in a Speech and Language Therapy post.

We are looking for a reflective practitioner who works well in a team and has good time management, organisation and communication skills.

We will provide regular support, clinical supervision and the opportunity to further develop your clinical skills through in house training programmes and externally funded courses and development opportunities. Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust also employs Speech and Language Therapists in an adult acute hospital setting.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a designated speech and language therapy service to children in the locality, working as part of the Speech and Language Therapy team
  • To undertake home, nursery and school visits and to use video consultations as appropriate
  • To liaise with colleagues and other professionals within the multidisciplinary team
  • To present a professional image and to promote a positive image of the Trust

Job responsibilities

These are the key areas that support the purpose of the job
  • To provide a speech and language therapy service to a designated caseload of children in the locality.
  • To provide assessment and diagnostic services to children referred with speech, language and communication needs, using a range of clinical skills and demonstrating clinical reasoning to manage the caseload.
  • To communicate effectively with referral agencies, colleagues working with the child, and families, using language appropriate to the recipient.
  • To assist with therapy groups, working with other speech and language therapists and assistants, and/or with staff from other services and agencies.
  • To provide targeted therapy to designated children, monitoring their progress and adapting therapy activities as appropriate.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records and in line with Trust and service guidelines and requirements.
  • To comply with data and activity recording and reporting requirements.
  • To maintain a personal record in order to provide evidence of developing competencies as required by the SLT Service and the professional body.
  • To assist other speech and language therapists in the delivery of training.


Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Recognised vocational degree in speech and language therapy ? HCPC registration


Desirable

  • RCSLT membership ? Completion of RCSLT competences ? Relevant short courses


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of work with children with a range of communication difficulties in a variety of community settings ? Experience of caseload administration & prioritisation


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to work as part of a team ? Clear communication skills ? Organisation and time management skills ? Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of SLT


Desirable

  • Experience of using an electronic patient record system
