Blackpool Teaching Hospitals are looking for highly motivated and committed Band 6 Nurses to work within the Hyper acute and Rehabilitation Stroke Unit which has strong links to the wider Unscheduled Care team, and we welcome applicants with an interest within this specialty.
This a dual role unique to stroke - you will be trained in how to assess individuals admitted to ED with stroke symptoms, and provide a direct service to the unit via CT to provide emergency treatment and transfers. The role also requires you to support and co-ordinate the unit of 39 patients and the staff as well as working with the wider multidisciplinary team.
This is an excellent time to join the team with the opening of the ambulatory clinic, transition to a Hyper acute unit and the ongoing changes and developments for stroke services to ensure the best care is provided to our patients.
The Acute Stroke and rehabilitation unit is a 38 bedded unit which opened in July 2013. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Stroke Services provide 24-hour thrombolysis, and this is carried out within the stroke unit. You will be working on a busy multi-disciplinary stroke unit where the team is friendly and active, and dedicated to promoting individualised stroke care to promote optimum independence.
As a Trust, we recommend that individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Main duties of the job
We are highly focused upon your education, and we have specialist stroke training programmes available in-house as well as external courses for both acute and rehabilitation. Commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development is essential. You should be motivated, keen to learn and ready to embrace change - our commitment to you is to provide the environment for this to happen.
We are focused on the care that our patients receive, and that their carers are given the opportunity to be involved in a range of patient educational activities. This will be supported by the Specialist Stroke team.
