This is an exciting opportunity to join our department as a band 7 pharmacist. We support our staff to complete a postgraduate diploma and/ or independent prescribing whilst developing the necessary skillset to grow into a senior pharmacist.

The post holder will join a team of specialist and generalist clinical pharmacists, medicines optimisation technicians and pharmacy assistants in delivering high quality, safe and effective care to patients and service users. You will undertake ward based clinical pharmacy activities in addition to six monthly specialist workstream rotations. These areas include and are not limited to: medicines safety, pre-operative assessment, drugs and therapeutic committee, spinal rehabilitation medicine, acute pain, chronic pain clinics, clinical trials and research, metabolic bone disease and rheumatology, homecare, complex long-term bone and soft-tissue infection management as well as post-operative care and high dependency/critical care.

This is a full time role entailing 37.5 hours per week and includes weekend and on-call commitment on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, forward thinking and pro-active clinically orientated pharmacist to join our progressive team at RNOH. There is extensive scope for the successful applicant to develop on both a personal and professional level through exposure to all departmental activities, contributing towards portfolio building and the opportunity for further roles in the future. The post holder will be required to possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively in busy environments both independently and within a team. Computer skills are essential. Ideally, the post holder should have previous NHS experience and be working towards or completed a clinical pharmacy diploma.

Other examples of the department's innovation and achievement projects include creation of the medicines safety dashboard and monthly bulletin, pharmacist led opioid deprescribing clinics and contribution to developing national guidelines.

  • To contribute to the Trust medicines optimisation agenda to ensure delivery of a safe, clinically and cost effective pharmacy service
  • To review local policies and guidelines on good prescribing practice
  • To ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to patients needs To be an educational supervisor to pre-registration pharmacists
  • To mentor and support junior members of staff
  • To contribute to the education and training programme for all pharmacy and clinical staff
  • To work closely with the wider MDT in the Trust and provide medicines expertise
  • To meet the department and Trusts audit agenda and quality improvement objectives
  • Critical evaluation of medicines expenditure and financial reporting


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in pharmacy (BPharm/MPharm depending on year of qualification), Approved by GPhC
  • Registration with GPhC
  • Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or working towards completion in the second year)


Desirable

  • Basic management training
  • Working towards portfolio development according to RPS framework
  • Independent prescriber (or working towards qualification)
  • RPS membership


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years in NHS Hospital Pharmacy
  • Experience in delivering training
  • Experience in undertaking audit
  • Undertaking of out of hours service provision and/or independent working


Desirable

  • Clinical trial work
  • Working as an Independent Prescriber
  • Clinical caseload management
  • Running telephone and in-person clinics for patients
